Biker killed in collision with vehicle in Las Vegas; driver charged with DUI

A motorcyclist was killed this evening after colliding with a vehicle in the area of Owens Avenue, according to a North Las Vegas Police news release.

At about 6:21 p.m., the Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling on Owens at a high rate of speed. The bike swerved into the center lane to pass traffic before striking the back of a 2011 Chevrolet HHR that was stopped, the release stated.

The rider, a 29-year-old man was ejected from the vehicle, and was eventually pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Crystal Hughley, 43, was uninjured but showed signs of impairment and was arrested. She was booked into North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center on charges of DUI, felony child endangerment and other traffic-related offenses, the release stated.

Officers continue to investigate this collision, citing speed and a lack of motorcycle license endorsement as factors on the motorcyclist and impairment being a factor on the driver of the Chevrolet.
