The Bakari Smith Show rolled out its best episode of the season Friday as Shadow Ridge’s quarterback accounted for six total touchdowns in the Mustangs’ thrilling 50-49 overtime victory against Legacy. It was Shadow Ridge’s first triumph against Legacy in school history.

Bakari Smith is proving to be difficult for the opposition to contain. The Shadow Ridge High quarterback accounted for five touchdowns Friday in leading the host Mustangs to a 58-6 victory against Western to snap an 11-game losing streak.

Shadow Ridge spent all of last season in a state of transition. The school hired Frank Tousa as its new football coach a few weeks before practice started, meaning he had to scramble to get organized for the season. Most first-year coaches get to know their personnel in the offseason. Tousa had to do it while the Mustangs were playing games.

Palo Verde junior Ryan Beaulieu is the most dangerous returner in Las Vegas. He continued to prove it Thursday night in a 49-7 victory over Shadow Ridge. Beaulieu returned a punt for a 73-yard touchdown and took another one 68 yards to the one-yard line. He also had a 100-yard missed field goal return for a touchdown, but it was called back because of a penalty.

The Arbor View High football team rushed for 537 yards Saturday morning in a 55-6 victory against host Shadow Ridge. The game, which started at 10 a.m., was the first in a full slate of contests Saturday. “It was fun. It kind of had a college football feel to it,” Arbor View coach Dan Barnson said.

Shadow Ridge is reaping one unintended benefit from the four-game winning streak it went on at the end of last season to make the playoffs. First-year coach Frank Tousa has seen more players entering the program. The only logical expectation is that athletes on campus witnessed last year’s success first hand and wanted to become involved.
