A chandelier is the only thing left unscathed after a fire guts the casino floor of the MGM Grand Hotel. The casino was not equipped with sprinklers because of budgetary reasons. Owners believed that since it was a 24-hour casino someone would notice a fire and sprinklers and alarms would not be necessary. Don Ploke / Las Vegas Sun
