The player dropped his stick, the goalie raised his glove and the game was over. Sixty-five minutes and change of hard-hitting, fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat hockey had just come to an end, and Wranglers defenseman Jason Krischuk couldn’t believe it.

So close, yet so far away. There was Del Sol senior linebacker Curt Pfeiffer, lying face down on the Sam Boyd Stadium turf with his arms outstretched after lunging for an interception. The ball had fallen just inches short of Pfeiffer’s grip, but had the senior never hustled to corral the tipped ball, he would have never had the opportunity to make the play. “Two inches from my hand,” Pfeiffer said, holding up two fingers. “Two inches.”

He was nearly out of breath and nearly out of words, pacing and yelling, throwing a not-so-subtle right jab at the Plexiglas around his bench.
It was midway through the third period of Thursday night’s game against the Victoria Salmon Kings and the Las Vegas Wranglers head coach had just watched his team blow a two-goal, third-period lead.

It took seven games, three road trips and one replacement goaltender, but an overtime deflection by Francis Lemieux gave the Wranglers a 4-3 victory over the Victoria Salmon Kings Tuesday night at the Orleans Arena.
“It feels awesome,” Lemieux said. “We just needed to find a way to score goals, and tonight we came back and got our offense going.”

Before the season, Las Vegas Locomotives coach Jim Fassel told his team that the inaugural United Football League championship would go through Las Vegas.
Saturday night, Fassel’s words proved true.
The Locomotives defeated the California Redwoods, 16-10, at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, setting up a date with the Florida Tuskers on Nov. 27 at Sam Boyd Stadium for the UFL’s first championship game.

With just over a minute played in the third period of Friday night’s hockey game between the Las Vegas Wranglers and the visiting Utah Grizzlies, the fans at the Orleans Arena were going wild.
But two quick Utah goals hushed the 6,278 people in attendance and led to a 5-3 win by the Grizzlies, their fourth against the Wranglers in five meetings this season.

When Ned Lukacevic lights the lamp for the Wranglers this season, he'll be scoring a goal for more than one team.
The immediate impact of the forward's goals will be felt on the scoreboard, but the lasting impact will be felt in the hungry stomachs of kids across the Las Vegas area.
Thanks to a charitable proposal made during the team's recent trip to Three Square Food Bank, Lukacevic will donate $10 for each goal he scores this season.

He jumps onto the backs of cattle that rarely weigh less than 1,200 pounds and instantly, he’s jolted, his 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame furiously rocking back-and-forth and side-to-side.
More times than not, he’s thrown from the bull. So you’d think nothing can scare McConnel.

Friday morning the Las Vegas Wranglers travel to Ontario, Calif. to face off with the Ontario Reign (2-3) for their first road trip of the regular season.
The Wranglers lost to the Reign, 4-3, in Ontario earlier this month, in their second and final preseason game.
Sitting at 2-2 early in the season, the trip could come at just the right time to give the young team a spark.

There were three minutes left to play in Friday night’s divisional showdown between Basic and Silverado when the Skyhawks took the field at their own 15-yard-line trailing by a touchdown. For the Silverado offense, it was three minutes from salvaging the season. For the Basic defense, it was three minutes from validating the season.

It was mid-May when a beaten and battered Las Vegas Wranglers team limped off the Orleans Arena ice, swept at the hands of their fiercest rivals from Anchorage.
Another chapter in the rivalry was complete, with the Alaska Aces finishing a four-game sweep in the ECHL National Conference Finals just a year after the Wranglers ousted Alaska in the ECHL Conference Semifinals before advancing to the Kelly Cup Finals.
This weekend, the Wranglers will have the chance to stake an early claim in this year's edition as the Aces come to town for a three-game set starting today at 7:05 p.m. at the Orleans Arena.

It would happen after backyard baseball or a football game in the park, when Jack would get fed up with Ross taking him down or Ross would take objection to a dirty look from Jack. “They’d call them the Lamarca fights,” Jack Lamarca said. “We’d wrestle and fight and all of our friends would love watching us.”
