The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now underway, effective July 1.
Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.
Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.
Dallas Mavericks at Utah Jazz Under 226 points: $1,100 to win $1,000
The Jazz’s offense has exploded in the last handful of games, and I’m not sure I’m buying it. The Mavericks’ defense has flatlined in the last handful of games, and I’m not sure buying it.
I feel like both of these teams have some regression to endure on those sides of the floor — negative for the Jazz’s offense and positive for the Mavericks’ defense — before the All-Star Break. I think it could start tonight in Vivint Home Arena.
Both these teams are legitimate threats to win the Western Conference and that should make for a tight game. Neither the Jazz nor the Mavericks are in too challenging of a scheduling spot either, meaning they’ll be prepared and fresh for each other.
I anticipate a close game where each team is bearing down on defense late in the fourth quarter and every offensive possession is trying to be maximized. Look for something like a 108-105 win for either team, comfortably below the total.
