It’s February Madness in the local high school basketball scene.
There’s no better week for hoops than this one with tournaments in all three major regions — Sunrise, Sunset and Division 1A Southern — leading to next weekend’s state semifinals and championships. The first-round goes down Wednesday on home floors before the action shifts to host sites — Liberty for the Sunrise, Arbor View for the Sunset and Desert Pines for the Southern — for the quarterfinals and semifinals.
Find full picks for Wednesday’s games below, and check back after the first and second rounds for updated selections.

7-0 (1.000)

Should be the only Sunrise quarterfinal that isn’t competitive.
Coronado 70, Las Vegas 50
OK, I’ll stop picking against the Cougars — for now.
Coronado 68, Las Vegas 51
Playoff experience matters. Three-time Sunrise champs advance to next round.
Canyon Springs 61, Eldorado 57
I’ll take the better team over the more storied program .
Eldorado 72, Canyon Springs 71
Liberty is peaking at the right time of the season.
Liberty 68, Foothill 62
I wouldn’t be surprised if No. 4 seed Foothill wound up in the Sunrise championship game.
Foothill 66, Liberty 55
Anyone have a coin? Should be close.
Silverado 63, Green Valley 59
Feels like both teams have tailed off down the stretch.
Silverado 56, Green Valley 54
Gorman shouldn’t be challenged until Friday.
Bishop Gorman 80, Cimarron-Memorial 49
Most lopsided game of the week.
Bishop Gorman 94, Cimarron-Memorial 57
Upset of the Week: Legacy advances to semifinals.
Legacy 70, Desert Oasis 68
Not seeing it, Diamondbacks too tough.
Desert Oasis 64, Legacy 59
Here’s hoping Centennial doesn’t lose before Friday. We all want to see Troy Brown Jr. play Gorman.
Centennial 81, Shadow Ridge 64
Bulldogs will be too focused to even come close to losing the next two games.
Centennial 77, Shadow Ridge 54
Durango-Centennial in the semifinals could be the best game of the season.
Durango 76, Arbor View 63
Chase Ruiz has been one of the best players in town over the last couple weeks.
Durango 65, Arbor View 51
Two-time defending state champion Clark successfully starts its title defense.
Clark 65, Del Sol 44
Chargers haven’t let anyone even keep it close over the last month.
Clark 66, Del Sol 49
I might pick my Cowboys in the next round to upset Clark.
Chaparral 71, Cheyenne 65
Might be the game of the week.
Chaparral 63, Cheyenne 60
Closer than you think. DP will have its hands full.
Desert Pines 69, Sierra Vista 62
Are the Jaguars still the favorite to win the state championship? Probably.
Desert Pines 71, Sierra Vista 58
The Crusaders might be the last team standing in the D-1A.
Faith Lutheran 60, Virgin Valley 50
Virgin Valley can’t stop Zach Friel.
Faith Lutheran 68, Virgin Valley 52
If DesJardins plays like he did Wednesday, Coronado won’t be beat.
Coronado 70, Silverado 54
Coronado gets a scare, but it's fleeting.
Coronado 64, Silverado 56
I'd love to see a Coronado-Foothill championship game.
Foothill 60, Eldorado 52
Falcons pull a second straight upset to keep the Sunrise bracket I verbally filled out on the podcast perfect.
Foothill 57, Eldorado 56
Gorman won't be tested in this round.
Bishop Gorman 80, Desert Oasis 61
Diamondbacks are game, but Gaels are too much.
Bishop Gorman 88, Desert Oasis 74
Centennial continues to play defense at a high level.
Centennial 66, Durango 51
Best matchup of the semifinals, but the Bulldogs find a way to escape an upset.
Centennial 72, Durango 67
With the tournament in its gym, DP has an advantage.
Desert Pines 77, Faith Lutheran 63
Anything less than a state championship is unacceptable for the Jaguars.
Desert Pines 65, Faith Lutheran 49
My Cowboys make it interesting — for a quarter.
Clark 55, Chaparral 39
Chaparral will keep it competitive for longer than that, but Clark will show a strong resolve.
Clark 63, Chaparral 60
Gorman is beatable. This should be a classic.
Gorman 80, Centennial 74
Shame that we'll only get the potential classic once.
Bishop Gorman 75, Centennial 64
Coronado too big, physical for Eldorado.
Coronado 65, Eldorado 52
Eldorado is a great story, but Coronado is a great team.
Coronado 70, Eldorado 55
I’d love to see this rivalry as a seven-game series.
Desert Pines 60, Clark 57
I'm going to call for the upset on a last-second shot from the Chargers.
Clark 69, Desert Pines 68
