It’s a good time to be a sports bettor as far as options are concerned.

The betting board is packed today with full slates of NBA, NHL and MLB games. But the South Point-lined Play of the Day, which started with $10,000, will continue to stick on the diamond.

Kansas City Royals plus-125 at Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim: $260 to win $325

The Seattle Mariners have scored seven runs all year. Four of them were off Angels starter Jered Weaver, who makes his second start of the season tonight.

The 32-year-old is no longer the perennial All-Star that he was in his late 20s, and the betting market has been slow to catch on. Weaver’s name recognition leaves him overvalued.

It’s a bonus that fading Weaver coincides with backing one of the hottest-starting teams in baseball. The Royals have picked up right where they left off since reaching the World Series last year, winning each of their four games by at least two runs.

Betting on a streak to end can be a quick way to go broke in baseball. It always feels more comfortable to back the team clicking on all cylinders.

Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie hasn’t been a boon to bettors over the years, but he finished last season with the strongest stretch of his career.

I’ll hope he embodies his team, and carries on like there was no six-month break.
