White Team player Demarcus Cousins, 36, smiles at teammates during the USA Basketball Las Vegas Showcase game at the Thomas & Mack Center on Thursday, August 13, 2015.

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Sacramento Kings plus-9.5 at Phoenix Suns: $330 to win $300

The betting market didn’t adjust enough last night for DeMarcus Cousins’ absence. It may have gone too far tonight.

The Kings lost 103-89 as 4-point underdogs to the Grizzlies in their first game of the season without Cousins. It was a forgivable beat down in a bad spot, as the Kings played without their best player against a strong defensive team that had gotten humiliated with the worst loss in franchise history the night before.

The defeat shrouds the fact that Sacramento had looked competitive in each of its first three games, and the only noncover came when the Clippers rallied at the end of a 111-104 win as a 5.5-point underdog. Coming into the season, Phoenix and Sacramento appeared to be mixed in the middle of a group fighting for the final playoff spot in the western conference.

There’s been nothing to suggest that isn’t the case through one week of the season. Phoenix has a slight edge on Sacramento, but not a 9.5-point edge — not even without Cousins.
