Stanford quarterback Kevin Hogan (8) scores their second touchdown in the first half of an NCAA college football game against Oregon in Stanford, Calif., Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013.

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have restarted with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Oregon State plus-15.5 vs. Stanford: $330 to win $300

In case Stanford’s 41-point explosion in a victory over USC two weeks removed from managing only six points at Northwestern wasn’t enough of a clue, here’s one of college football’s worst-kept secrets: The Cardinal are wildly inconsistent.

That was their character last year when they went from mediocre in the middle of the season to mighty at the end, and they appear to have carried it over to 2015. So erratic is Stanford that it should never be asked to lay more than two touchdowns on the road, where it finished 2-4 against the spread last season.

The Cardinal are even more untrustworthy with senior quarterback Kevin Hogan questionable to play. Hogan led the charge in the victory over the Trojans with 279 yards and two touchdowns on 18-for-23 passing.

Oregon State looks like a bet-on anyway. The Beavers are priced as if they’re far and away the worst team in the Pac-12, but new coach Gary Andersen has never let opponents trample his teams.

Andersen got his power-run offense going in a 35-21 victory over San Jose State last week with four-year contributor Storm Woods racking up 151 yards on 17 carries. Stanford has shown some vulnerability stopping the run in giving up 3.7 yards per rush attempt, which ranks 41st in the nation.

This will feel like a bigger game for Oregon State, which will be motivated to make an impression on its home fans and a statement to the rest of the conference.
