Vegas Play of the Day: Tennessee at Alabama

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Alabama minus-3 vs. Tennessee: $440 to win $400

I’m looking for spots to bet against Tennessee and new coach Rick Barnes this season. Alabama and new coach Avery Johnson are the opposite.

The Volunteers are talented but play little defense and rebound poorly. The Crimson Tide are wrapped up in their own flaws, namely turnovers and rebounding, but play smarter and have home-court advantage.

Alabama is 1-5 in the SEC but on the verge of breaking through. Its last two losses have come by a total of eight points, including a 72-70 defeat to LSU on Saturday.

The Crimson Tide are capable of bearing down on defense, which should be easy against a Volunteers team that can’t shoot. Alabama has heated up from 3-point range and scores 35 percent of its points from beyond the arc.

Senior guard Retin Obasohan is electric and will attack for points all over the court. He’ll be the best player in the game and make this a winning wager.

Current Standings (as of July 1): Brewer (32-28, $10,420), Bern (23-30, $6,955), Keefer (26-41-2, $4,002)

Lifetime standings: 2014-15 Champion Bern (103-103-1), Keefer (110-123-4), Brewer (101-116-2)

Case Keefer can be reached at 702-948-2790 or [email protected]. Follow Case on Twitter at twitter.com/casekeefer.
