We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

St. Louis Blues minus-130 vs. San Jose Sharks: $520 to win $400

If you’re looking for detailed analysis as the Western Conference finals heads to game 2, you’ve come to the wrong place. That’s how I typically approach these Play of the Days, but it hasn’t gotten me very far this year — just look at my record.

So, in my return to the contest after a nearly two-week break, I’m going with mostly intuition. From what I’ve seen of these two teams in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, I think St. Louis is noticeably better.

I think the Blues are better than the betting market indicates. They were laying upwards of minus-150 in home games against the Stars last round, and there’s no reason for the lines to get nearly cut in half because of a couple losses.

The Sharks may have some success when the series shifts back to the SAP Center later this week, but for now, they’re not offered at a high enough price at Scottrade Center.

Current Standings (as of July 1): Brewer (47-40-2, $10,925), Bern (32-38, $7,175), Keefer (46-56-2, $6,390)

Lifetime standings: 2014-15 Champion Bern (112-112-1), Keefer (129-138-4), Brewer (116-127-4)
