We’re entering the third season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won the 2015-2016 season, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015.

Ole Miss plus-6 at Florida State: $550 to win $500

Florida State has posted a losing record against the spread in two of the past four seasons under coach Jimbo Fisher. Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze has never ended a season unprofitably.

While that alone proves nothing and isn’t enough justification to take the Rebels tonight, it does speak to a larger point: Florida State’s stature is so elevated that it can be overvalued while Ole Miss is perennially undervalued.

That’s playing out again to start this year. A full touchdown on the betting line is too much for a program that has produced such consistency and success since Freeze arrived.

The line wasn’t always this high, as bettors have boosted it from 4 points just a couple days ago. A point spread around a field goal would be more appropriate.

Ole Miss had a troublesome offseason, but the product on the field still projects to be quality. Quarterback Chad Kelly threw for 8.8 yards per pass attempt last year and could attack a Florida State secondary that lost a couple pieces.

The Seminoles have similar edges, like shifty running back Dalvin Cook going up against an inexperienced defensive line. But put it all together and the teams are about even.

Perception is the only thing that has one six points better than the other.

Current Standings: Keefer (11-7-1, $11,151), Bern (6-7, $10,144), Brewer (8-9, $9,005)
