A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 30-year-old Janette Nelson, who has been on the run since April 1 with her 2-month-old infant daughter who needs medical attention, North Las Vegas Police said.

Nelson has been in contact with authorities, but refuses to bring the infant to authorities who could provide necessary medical treatment, said North Las Vegas Police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon.

The warrant charges Janette Nelson, also known as Rochelle Brown, with one count of child abuse.

Nelson is described as black, 5-foot-4-inches tall, weighing 200 pounds. She was last seen in the area of Civic Center Drive and Cheyenne Avenue.

She gave birth on Feb. 9 to a baby girl at North Vista Hospital under an alias of Rochelle Brown, Coon said. After mother and infant were discharged from the hospital, it was learned that the baby has a severe infectious disease that needs immediate medical attention, police said.

The disease is not a public health threat, but the infant needs medical treatment, Coon said.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Janette Nelson or the baby girl is urged to contact Detective Dave Molnar at (702) 633-1779, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
