Approximate area of crash

Two teenage girls are dead and two others are in critical condition after a motor home collided with a tractor trailer on Interstate 15, the second fatal crash in the same area of the highway in two days, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

An International motor home southbound on Interstate 15 drove up behind a slower-moving tractor trailer at about 5 a.m. Thursday, said Trooper Kevin Honea, spokesman for the Nevada Highway Patrol. The crash occurred northeast of Las Vegas near the Valley of Fire exit on I-15.

The motor home's driver steered sharply to the right to avoid hitting the tractor trailer, but the left-front area of the motor home hit the right-rear of the tractor trailer, Honea said.

Two teenage girls were ejected from the motor home and were pronounced dead at the scene, Honea said. They have not been identified. The Clark County Coroner's Office will release their names and the causes of the deaths.

Two other people inside the motor home have been admitted to University Medical Center with critical injuries, Honea said. The status of the other three people in the motor home is unknown, Honea said.

Highway patrol troopers are investigating this latest crash on northbound Interstate 15.

In a separate crash, a 21-year-old Michigan woman, Ashley Nicole Krieger, was killed when a Ford Explorer sports utility vehicle overturned in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 about 20 miles north of Las Vegas at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, the highway patrol said.
