UPDATE: Police identify driver who crashed into power pole

A driver was pronounced dead early Sunday after his vehicle collided with a power pole.

A 2001 Chevrolet Silverado left its lane at about 1:25 a.m. as it traveled east on Russell Road, near Lamb Boulevard, traveling onto the south sidewalk, Metro Police said.

The vehicle struck an overhead light pole and continued east until it collided with a power pole, police said. The driver suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical crews, police said.

The 21-year-old Las Vegas man, the sole occupant in the Silverado, has not been identified, pending notification of next of kin.

The Clark County Coroner's Office will determine cause and manner of death.

This is the 27th traffic-related fatality in Metro Police jurisdiction this year. The collision remains under investigation by Metro's Accident Investigation Section.
