Post 31 News:

Plans to be set for St. Patrick’s events

On March 3 at 7 p.m., Post 31 of the American Legion will hold its regular monthly business meeting at Legion Hall, 508 California Ave., and all veterans are welcome.

Commander Doug McHam announced that in addition to the standard monthly business of the post, plans for the annual St. Patrick's Day dinner will be finalized. It will be held March 17, two weeks following the regular meeting. There will be corned beef and cabbage along with all the appropriate side dishes and desserts.

Chairman Ruth Taylor said there will be St. Pat's Day decorations along with door prizes, music and a few surprises.

McHam said he also had received permission for Post 31 to send four boys to the annual Carson City trek to Boys State. High School seniors from all over the state set up a mock legislature and session and learn how legislation is originated and passed into law. This is a highly coveted break in the high school routine, and McHam still has to confirm one more name before releasing the identities.

Service Officer Nancy Nolette's series of in-depth discussions of benefits for veterans and their relations got off to a good start last week with 25 attendees. Nollette, a veterans benefits counselor, will hold her next discussion for veterans and families on March 11. The topic will be "All Veterans Benefits" starting at 11 a.m. at the Boulder City Senior Center's Community Room, 813 Arizona St.

Attendees will learn how they can navigate the complex VA system and access health care, prescriptions, medicines and long term care.

Those attending last Thursday morning's coffee/breakfast social were pleased to learn that Clayton Glenn has finally been able to return home after long weeks of recovery and rehabilitation. Glenn had fallen from a ladder while pruning a tree in his yard resulting in a right leg compound fracture and a fractured left knee.

His friend Jack Belleau, who has tirelessly attended to Glenn's needs while Glenn was recuperating, reports the latter is quite happy to be home and setting up a routine while continuing to improve with therapy there.

Glenn said he had just finished whipping the hospital staff into shape so that service was more to his liking when they suddenly announced he could go home. It may have had something to do with that decision.

It is hoped he will be able to attend next Thursday's affair.

Those present were also surprised and pleased when former post commander Joe Rowe and his wife, Bernadette, visited the breakfast social. They were in town for just a few days to visit and attend to business.

They are hoping their daughter's husband gets a work transfer back to Boulder City in about six months. If so, they also plan to return. Rowe said he misses Boulder City.

The Thursday morning get-togethers run from about 7 to 9 a.m. and feature the culinary artistry of the Commander. McHam is getting rave reviews on his cheese and sausage omelets. See you there.
