Wranglers set to hold toy drive Friday

Expanded hockey coverage

The Las Vegas Wranglers announced Monday they will hold a toy drive Friday night to benefit Opportunity Village.

Fans are asked to bring new, unwrapped toys for boys and girls ages 5 and 6 years old to the Wranglers game at the Orleans Arena.

All donated toys will go to at-risk, first-grade children visiting the Magical Forest at Opportunity Village as part of Cheyenne's Magical School Bus Tour.

Opportunity Village is the largest private provider of vocational training, employment, advocacy and recreation for people with disabilities in Nevada and serves more than 1,100 people.

"We are so grateful for the support we have received from local businesses, civic groups and now the Las Vegas Wranglers hockey fans,” said Opportunity Village Educational Liaison Debbie Smith. "According to their teachers, for many, this will be the only Christmas gift they receive. The program is aimed at providing a unique, fun experience as well as disability awareness for these young children."

Toy Drive Night comes on the heels of a successful food drive in which Wranglers fans donated more than 4,000 pounds of food and $1,000 in cash.

The Wranglers (5-5) host the Utah Grizzles (5-3) at the Orleans Arena on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday night.
