Coroner identifies 24-year-old motorcyclist killed in collision

Fatal crash

The Clark County Coroner's Office has identified a 24-year-old man killed Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle accident near Nellis Air Force Base.

Shane Payne, of Las Vegas, died at the scene when he was ejected from his motorcycle while trying to avoid colliding with a Chevrolet Trailblazer. Police said the accident happened at 4:28 p.m. near the intersection of Craig Road and Lamont Street.

Authorities said the Trailblazer was traveling west on Craig Road attempting a left, or southbound, turn onto Lamont Street. The motorcycle, which was going east on Craig Road, was traveling in the left of three eastbound lanes, officers said.

Police said the Trailblazer failed to yield the right of way while making a left turn and turned into the path of the approaching motorcycle. Payne tried to avoid the collision by changing lanes and, before striking the Trailblazer, laid the motorcycle on its side, police said.

The driver of the Trailblazer, Sheena MacKlin, 26, Las Vegas, and her passenger, Tonya Mosley, 33, Las Vegas, weren't injured, police said.
