Five-run eighth inning helps 51s rally past Sacramento

The Las Vegas 51s used a five-run eighth inning today against visiting Sacramento to erase a four-run deficit and claim the final game of the Pacific Coast League series with a 6-5 win.

Zach Lutz’s two-run double plated the winning runs, helping the 51s take 3 of 4 games against Sacramento. Las Vegas finished the eight-game homestand to open the season with a 6-2 record, and now heads to Fresno to begin a series Friday.

Las Vegas struggled at the plate until the eighth inning. It had four hits in the initial seven innings, then four hits in the decisive eighth. It also took advantage of two Sacramento errors.

Eric Campbell delivered a run-scoring double in the rally and Bobby Abreu had an RBI single.

Daniel Muno had a sixth-inning home run for Las Vegas, which also received two hits from Abreu.

The 51s return to Cashman Field April 19.
