Noah Syndergaard hurt as 51s endure another defeat

The Fresno Grizzlies mauled the Las Vegas 51s Thursday night at Cashman Field, riding a three-run first inning to lead the entire game and nab a 9-4 victory.

They got all three runs off prized prospect Noah Syndergaard, who took the loss after leaving the game with an apparent shoulder injury before the end of the first inning. Giancarlo Alvarado pitched five innings of emergency relief but surrendered eight hits and four runs, including a three-run home run to Mark Minicozzi in the sixth inning.

Las Vegas mustered just two hits off Mike Kickham and didn’t score until Fresno pulled the starter at the beginning of the eighth inning. Daniel Muno, Josh Satin and Kirk Nieuwenhuis all homered in the final innings for the 51s, but the win was out of reach.

The 51s continue their home series with the Grizzlies at 7:05 Friday night.
