A man whose body was found Sunday after he was reported missing July 5 at Lake Mead has been identified as 24-year-old Luis Javier Bojas-Vargas, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Bojas-Vargas, whose city of residence was not available, was found at Boulder Basin on July 12 by a boater, according to the National Park Service.

Lake Mead officials received a call about 1:25 p.m. July 5 that Bojas-Vargas jumped off a boat and didn’t surface, according to the Park Service.

He was wearing an improperly secured life jacket, which came off in the water, the Park Service said.

He was last seen in the Boulder Basin and was thought to be in an area about 80 to 160 feet deep and about a half mile from shore, officials said.

National Park Service rangers, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Nevada Department of Wildlife and Earth Resource Group volunteers searched the area.
