Sierra Vista is going to the playoffs for the second straight year.

A 42-16 victory over Pahrump Valley paired with a Faith Lutheran win over Spring Valley secured the Mountain Lions a date next week at Moapa Valley as the No. 4 seed in the Division 1A Sunset.

“We’re starting to play better,” Sierra Vista coach John Foss said. “We’re getting healthier, and we’re excited to go play the season out.”

One of the banged-up players earlier in the year was senior running back Daniel Godfrey. The value of his presence was shown against the Trojans.

Godfrey rushed for more than 100 yards and three touchdowns. Junior Budhatt Kolone had the longest run of the night as he scored from more than 70 yards out. Sophomore Isaiah Zavala also had a 30-yard touchdown run.

Sierra Vista will take its first winning streak into the showdown with Moapa Valley, which beat the Mountain Lions 35-21 in the opening week of the season.

“We were in that game but I know Moapa has gotten a lot better since then,” Foss said. “Hopefully we’ll be able to control the ball and play our best game.”
