Shooting that killed Las Vegas teen was caught on video

Metro Police released a video today of the Monday apartment complex shooting near Lake Mead Boulevard and Torrey Pines Drive that killed a Las Vegas teen.

Tiyvone Taylor Mills, 16, died of a gunshot wound in the back at the Portofino Villas apartments, at 6300 W. Lake Mead Blvd., according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Officers were called about 9:30 p.m. Monday to the scene and found Mills on the floor of a parking lot, according to a Metro Police news release.

Surveillance video shows three people near the entrance of the complex, and one of the individuals appears to fire a gun.

The suspect fled on foot from the complex with another male of unknown age, according to police.

Police have described the suspect as a male between 16 and 20 years old, and he was last seen wearing a black hoodie with a light shirt and dark pants.

The video footage came from a camera in the Desert Meadows community across the street, police said.

The camera, which was placed in the community about a year ago, sends data to Metro's Real Time Crime Center.

It was installed as part of a joint effort between Metro and residents after a mobile crime camera platform in the area appeared to reduce calls to police about violent incidents, according to Metro.
