Vegas Play of the Day: B.C. Lions at Hamilton TigerCats

We’re entering the third season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won the 2015-2016 season, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015.

British Columbia Lions plus-5.5 at Hamilton TigerCats: $550 to win $500

He Hate Me was the ultimate weapon in the XFL. Fifteen years later, his brother might fill the same role in the CFL.

Chris Rainey electrified the Lions to an upset victory in week 1 of the CFL season, mostly on kick returns. Now there’s talk of the former Florida speedster taking on a bigger role on offense.

That’s going to provide a challenge for the TigerCats, which blew out the rival Toronto Argonauts 42-20 in week 1 but weren’t great defensively. Hamilton is also starting quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, who was supposed to be the backup until a lingering injury sidelined Zack Collaros.

Masoli played well against the Argos, but it’s important not to overreact to one game. A Masoli-led offense probably shouldn’t lay nearly a touchdown against a promising B.C. team.

If Rainey continues to break out, he’s going to need his own nickname. How about Hate Me, Eh?

Current Standings: Brewer (0-0, $10,000), Bern (0-0, $10,000), Keefer (0-0, $10,000)
