There was no suspense on whether Green Valley would extend its season another week in the playoffs.

The Gators clobbered Valley 53-25 in their first-round matchup that included a 26-0 first quarter.

“We controlled the game from the beginning,” Green Valley coach Brian Castro said.

Green Valley scored in a variety of ways to build an insurmountable lead almost immediately. Julian Hulse and Desmond Bowers each had first-quarter rushing touchdowns, while Mitch Jacobs returned an interception for a touchdown and Kalyja Waialae took a punt to the end zone.

Later on, Tyreeque Isaac, Tyler Steele, Noah Hawthorne and Braxton Harms all scored. Green Valley will attempt to reach its second Sunrise regional championship game in three years when it goes to Canyon Springs next week.

“It’s a great opportunity for our kids,” Castro said. “We’ve had a great season so far, and it’s a new season with the playoffs. Canyon has had some success and has great skill dudes, great team speed. We’ve got to do our homework and have a good week of practice.”
