Moapa Valley coach Brent Lewis had an eerie feeling about his team’s playoff game against Virgin Valley. While Moapa Valley was victorious in the regular season meeting between the rivals, that game was closely contested and the Virgin Valley offense enjoyed some success. “After we won that first game, I was worried about this game,” Lewis said. “The team that loses has all of the adjustments.” Lewis’ fears, however, didn’t manifest into reality, as the Pirates booked their 10th consecutive trip to the state semifinals, following a 20-13 victory over Virgin Valley.

Virgin Valley quarterback Garrett Leavitt threw for 343 yards with three touchdowns in a 27-0 victory over Mojave in the first round of the Division I-A playoffs. Devonte Milligan caught five passes for 162 with two touchdowns. Dee Bowler also eclipsed the 100-yard mark, catching eight passes for 112 yards.

Virgin Valley gets back on winning track

Virgin Valley was in desperate need of some momentum. The Bulldogs had dropped back-to-back games, and with the playoffs coming fast, they needed to get back on the winning track. Virgin Valley did just that against Sunrise Mountain, pulling off a 60-28 victory. “It’s nice to get a win,” Virgin Valley coach Chris Sawyers said. “It gets us back into a rhythm, puts smiles on our kids’ faces and gets them rejuvenated.” Virgin Valley (7-2, 3-2 Division I-A Sunrise) is set to travel to Mojave in the first round of the playoffs.
