One of two men found guilty of killing another man with a pipe bomb detonated at the Luxor parking garage was formally sentenced today to life in prison without parole. Omar Rueda-Denvers, 34, was sentenced on a charge of first-degree murder for a pipe bomb explosion on the garage roof of the Luxor on May 7, 2007, that killed Willebaldo Dorantes Antonio. Dorantes Antonio’s girlfriend, Caren Chali, was near the explosion but was unharmed.

A coroner's jury has found the death of a man who died in Metro Police custody to be excusable. Authorities say Daniel Morantes III, 47, stopped breathing after being restrained by officers on Nov. 1. He died at Sunrise Hospital a short time later. The jury had to determine who was responsible for the death and whether the death was excusable or criminal. Metro Police responded at 6:22 p.m. to the 500 block of North 14th Street in response to a report of a fight between two roommates, one of whom was reported to have a knife, police said.
