LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Economy is just floating away

Three years ago, I decided to welcome spring and summer to my yard by blowing bubbles.

A therapist told me it would be soothing, and as a child, I always found blowing bubbles great fun.

So I went on the hunt for bottles of bubbles. At every store I visited, the labels all read “made in China.”

Why would small, medium and even very large bottles of bubbles be sent to the United States across giant bodies of water?

How did this make economic sense?

I am still wondering, what with the hullabaloo about supply chain issues and ships backed up in harbors waiting for days to be off-loaded and their products put on trucks: Isn’t there a better way to meet people’s needs?

Wouldn’t it be simpler if the bubbles were made somewhere near where they were poofed into the air to float freely for a few happy moments and then suddenly disappear?

Our world might be a less complicated place if other products(besides bubbles) were manufactured, bottled or packaged close to where they were being offered to the consumers.
