LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Caregivers’ love is a special kind

I was happy to read the editorial from The Sun of Lowell, Mass., published Feb. 17, “A day to show caregivers we care.”

This coming May will mark four years of being my wife’s sole caregiver. One’s love is never more apparent than when caring for someone else.

I’m 73 and probably looking for someone to help me, but that’s not possible. As a caregiver, you give up everything in your life to ensure the safety and happiness of the loved one.

I guess what bothers me the most is individuals, with good intentions I’m sure, trying to give advice. If a person hasn’t been a caregiver, there is no way to know what a caregiver goes through, day in and day out. Among my wife’s problems is aphasia (inability yo speak). Just smiling to me is the only thanks she can give me.

Bless all the caregivers, as it’s something we do out of love for another.
