LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Biden’s energy is inspiring

Thumbs up for Mike Smith and his Feb. 21 editorial cartoon depicting a man sitting on a couch saying President Joe Biden is “too old and tired,” with his wife replying, “He just took a trip to Ukraine. I can’t even get you to take the trash out.”

On the next page was Eugene Robinson’s column, “Putin seriously misjudged Biden’s courage.”

Unlike Vladimir Putin and the couch potato husband in the cartoon, I marvel at Biden, who at age 77 decided to run for president after a white supremacy rally in Charlottesville, Va., and against the authoritarian, racist and misogynist former president, Donald Trump. Two years into term, many pundits and analysts say Biden had the best first two years of any president.

Too old, too tired, too weak? Hardly. His decision to run when others have long retired tells you about the resolve of this man who, as vice president to President Barack Obama, helped this nation pull out of the Great Recession. Instead of spending cherished time with his children and grandchildren in retirement, Biden heard the call to duty once again, and his work has been exemplary.

Biden’s work and sacrifice gives him the right to decide whether he will run for reelection.
