LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

The two parties are not the same

All politicians lie. There is no difference between the Democratic and the Republican parties. Government is too big and corrupt.

We have all heard these statements and recognize an element of truth. However, these ideas are being used against us by both internal and external entities (or enemies) who wish to overturn our entire system of government and our way of life. Undermining trust and confidence is their stock in trade.

Some politicians have no qualms about lying and will do or say whatever it takes to gain and retain power. The ends justifies the means for them.

One major political party has abandoned fealty to the fundamental principles of fairness, justice, equality, liberty and democracy for large segments of society. Representatives in both houses of Congress and Supreme Court justices from one side have opted for extreme measures and ideology, rejected the idea of compromise with divided and shared power, sold out the people for money, power or fringe ideals, and decided that incivility and even violence are acceptable in winning at all cost.

Vladimir Putin has paid good money to establish a formidable army of propagandists, influencers and bots, using our media to reinforce these insidious messages, undermining faith in government and elections. The Republican Party, having become a cult, uses those rationalizations and “both-sides-isms” to justify chicanery, while Democrats act primarily in good faith.

Unlike Republicans, Democrats believe in democracy, integrity and compromise. The incivility is extremely lopsided, leaving only one logical choice on the ballot.
