LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Jesus is not relevant to law

What is purpose of invoking Jesus in a letter to the editor, as was done in the March 15 letter “Some sins are not forgivable” and the March 12 letter “Jesus would not approve of GOP”?

This is a blatant attempt to stop the argument of the opposite side. The writers implied they know what and how Jesus thinks and would act. After all, how can anyone argue with Jesus? The writers dare anyone to argue with Jesus.

Fortunately, the United States operates according to the Constitution. The words “God” or “Jesus” do not appear in the Constitution, nor are they implied. The Constitution is a secular document that does not establish any particular religion or mention any specific deity. Therefore, court’s cannot take into account how Jesus might act in any particular situation.

The two writers weaken their argument by invoking Jesus. They are putting up a Jesus shield to block other arguments.
