LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Transportation upgrades needed in Las Vegas

You would think that with great sports teams, venues, restaurants, hotels and entertainment available, Las Vegas would be a first-class city, but as they say, “there is an elephant in the room” that no one is talking about.

It’s the airport. Terminal 1 needs to be completely knocked down and a new terminal built from scratch.

At Harry Reid International, all three lanes of drop-off traffic come to a complete stop several times at the drop-off area to let passengers being dropped off walk across three lanes to get to the terminal.

This doesn’t happen at the beautiful new airport in Salt Lake City, or in Indianapolis or even Los Angeles. I noticed upon my arrival at Terminal 1 that it has recently been upgraded, but the moving walkways were removed, which makes the walk to the baggage area or the parking lots very, very. long.

The drive on Interstate 15 to and from Southern California is another elephant.

How are we going to handle the crowds for the Formula One race or the Super Bowl? How are they going to get into our city and how are they going to get out of our city having a good experience?

Stop giving public money to build baseball stadiums and venues and start financing a new Terminal 1 and the roads leading in and out of our city.
