Letter to the Editor:

Voter fraud is a red herring

Republicans fret constantly about voter fraud, though it amounts to roughly .0000001% of votes cast and has been perpetrated almost exclusively by Republicans and prosecuted by an unbiased justice system.

Unlike some Republicans, Democrats know that the advantage of voting multiple times is far outweighed by the extremely high risk of being caught and serving time. Still, the issue gets unwarranted attention.

Republicans grossly exaggerate and shamelessly exploit the bugaboo to score points and agitate their gullible base.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump finally admitted he lost the 2020 election, while preparing for another big lie about 2024, months before the election. His vile purpose is to undermine confidence in the electoral process. He riles up his base, hoping for a repeat of the violence of Jan. 6, 2021.

Now, a conservative media company has been federally indicted in a plot to use millions of Kremlin cash to influence public opinion illegally in the U.S. Recall that special counsel Bob Mueller’s investigation showed that Russian operatives were similarly heavily involved in manipulating media — social and otherwise — in 2016.

One marvels at the fact that our mainstream media have failed to keep us informed about these things, or about the unmistakable evidence of Trump’s cognitive decline. Republicans and media “sanewash” his insane behavior reflexively. Project 2024? Do not expect to hear much about that horror on the big networks, either. It’s shameful.
