FLASHPOINT:

Much ado about prostitution

If state Sen. Bob Coffin has accomplished anything with his silly tax on acts of prostitution, besides raising very little money and distracting from the more serious business at hand, he has geometrically increased the national ridicule of Nevada. Major newspapers have shown interest, primarily for the purpose of patronizing our state’s denizens as rubes — particularly the legislators! And The Hotline, a D.C. insider publication, last week gave its “Breakfast Flake” award to Coffin’s colleague, Maggie Carlton, when she said this about her opposition to the tax proposal: “It’s tough enough raising teenage daughters without adding this to the mix.” Note to out-of-state folks: It ain’t passing.
