Golf Hall of Fame taking nominations

The nominating and induction committee of the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for deserving people to be considered for induction into the 2009 class.

The goal of the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame is to celebrate and bring awareness to those players, administrators, benefactors, groups, instructors, teams, and other worthy golfers. Current members of the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame and class in which each was inducted include: Tommy Armour III, 2008; Jerry Belt, 1991; Helen Cannon, 2004; James Cashman, Jr., 1998; Clyde Cobb, 1991; James Colbert, 2002; Eddie Draper, 2004; Eric Dutt, 2008; Brady Exber, 2006; Las Vegas Founders, 2004; Robert Gamez, 2002; Butch Harmon, 2006; Ernest Haupt, 1998; Richard Huff, 2004; Louis Redden, 2008; Stuart Reid, 1991; Chris Riley, 2004; Jerry Roberts, 2008; Tom Storey, 2006; Charlie Teel, 1991; 1997-98 UNLV Golf Team, 2002; C. Pat Walker, 1998.

A golfer must have lived in Southern Nevada for five years to be considered for induction, and meet the other requirements detailed on the nomination form.

Nomination forms with guidelines are available for download on the home pages of the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame at www.lasvegasgolfhof.com. Nominations will be accepted until June 1.

Duty holds big edge in Player of year standings

Patrick Duty of Wynn Golf Club has taken advantage of some good early season play to take a substantial lead in the Southern Nevada Chapter of the Southwest Section PGA Player of the Year Standings.

Through the Sunrise Vista Players Series, Duty has compiled 239 points for a comfortable 110 point lead over Desert Rose's Mike Buss. Joey Seaman and Troy Helseth of Boulder Creek are third and fourth with 123 and 100 points respectively.

Helseth leads in stroke average at 66 with Seaman in second at 69.

Gary Knapp of Lake Las Vegas Resort leads the Senior Division with 178 points. Tom Fischer of Red Rock Country Club is second at 158.

Fischer leads in stroke average at 72 with Knapp in second at 73.67.

Up next for the Southern Nevada Chapter is the Desert Buick Pro-Am, April 20, at Las Vegas National Golf Club.

Chamber to host golf event

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce will present the 2009 18th annual American Pacific Corporation "Swing for Success" Golf Classic Monday, June 1, at 7:30 a.m. at Anthem Country Club.

Proceeds from the event will support Nevada State College and the Henderson Chamber of Commerce.

Foursomes for the event cost $900, with individual playing spots available for $225. Entry includes green fee, cart, practice balls, on-course contests, a tee gift package, breakfast and an awards luncheon.

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit, voluntary organization committed to promoting and supporting member businesses.
