I don’t remember whether the Las Vegas Sun’s letters to the editor section ever solved the difference between conservatives and liberals, but I’ve got it!
An island community needs a lighthouse to warn ships of dangerous shoals.
The community’s liberal party platform advocates the community build a lighthouse and pay the salary of a lighthouse keeper.
The conservative party advocates encouraging someone to build a lighthouse and row out to collect the money from each ship that passes.
If the liberal party wins, the lighthouse gets built and someone mans it.
If the conservative party wins, the lighthouse gets built and someone mans it.
So, think about it, did Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush or George W. Bush change government’s basic approach to handling society’s basic needs?
Did we scrap Social Security, disband assistance programs, kill Medicare, etc.?
Really, about all conservatives brought was a tweaking of regulatory policy and that turned out to be less than a flaming success.
