In Richard McCord’s April 10 letter to the editor — headlined “Which ideology better serves the U.S.?” — he wrote, “Conservatives think it’s best for everyone when people decide and do what’s best for them.” Mr. McCord will have to eat his words. Let’s take abortion, for example.
Liberals believe abortion is up to each individual and should be made safe and available. Conservatives want to ban abortion and deny all Americans the right to choose.
Conservatives want to ban stem cell research. Conservatives want to deny gays and lesbians the same rights that other citizens enjoy. Conservative are not about freedom — they are about everyone living according to their values.
Only a secular and liberal America is worth living in.
