LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Las Vegas should take care of its people first

Las Vegas needs to get its priorities straight. We were shamed on national TV when “60 Minutes” showed University Medical Center’s outpatient cancer unit being closed for lack of funding, leaving some poor people no place to get life-saving chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Instead of allocating money for a new city hall, when we have a perfectly good, functioning city hall, or for an advertising campaign to boost a former slogan, we need to reopen the UMC outpatient cancer clinic and invite “60 Minutes” back to show the country that Las Vegas is a city that cares about its people and is more than just a gambling mecca. This will get more visitors back here than anything else.
