Anjeanette Damon, the crack political journalist with the Reno Gazette-Journal, posted an interesting item last week on her blog: “U.S. Rep. Dean Heller, R-Carson City, who has positioned himself as a conservative champion, is seen by some in the Republican Party as a promising challenger to U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., in 2010. But in a press conference today Heller repeatedly deflected questions about his future ... ‘My intentions today are to stay where I am,’ he said ... Pressed further to confirm he absolutely won’t challenge Reid, Heller ducked. ‘I didn’t say that,’ he said.” My take: Heller’s seat is safe, and he’s on Ways and Means, so unlikely. But would he be a first-tier contender? Absolutely.
