LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Ensign’s criticism of Obama rings hollow

Why is Nevada Sen. John Ensign so shallow?

When George W. Bush was president, he was photographed kissing and holding hands with a Saudi prince, knowing that 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were Saudi Arabians. Donald Rumsfeld was pictured shaking hands with Saddam Hussein as a special envoy of Ronald Reagan when the United States was trying to cozy up to Saddam in the 1980s.

Now Ensign and other empty suits in the Republican Party criticize President Barack Obama because Hugo Chavez, an outspoken critic of our policies, shook hands with him at a conference on Latin American affairs. The gesture, which Chavez initiated, had no “baggage” attached to it, unlike Rumsfeld schmoozing Saddam or Bush holding hands with the prince.

Ensign continues the Bush policy of pandering to the easily influenced, poorly informed voter. And to think Sen. Ensign was chosen to help Republicans get elected in 2008. He’s a shining example of what’s wrong with the Republican Party.
