LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Greed undermines intent of bailout

Republican arguments against this new stimulus package are the rhetoric of the past administration. The Republicans want to give big tax breaks to large corporations and wealthy business owners so they will hire more employees and get people back to work.

But we know the trickle-down economic solution doesn’t work. It merely puts more money into the pockets of the wealthy.

The Troubled Asset Relief Program fund is in shambles because of greed. We keep hearing the same old mantra: We didn’t spend any of the stimulus on these big bonuses, lavish trips and high salaries.

How stupid do they think we are? A better question might be: Are we really that stupid?

If I am given bailout money to pay all my bills this month, I will be able to use my own money to buy lavish gifts, go on a trip to Hawaii or bet on the next horse race. Or I could just stick it in my pocket.

The banks need to take the bailout money, add it to their own money and work to get this credit crisis under control. This is not what they are doing. They’re letting the government pay for everything so they can use their own money to fill their pockets.

This is a disgrace and the citizens of this country need to wake up.
