LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Casinos aren’t tending to needs of the little guy

Regarding Sunday’s Las Vegas Sun story, “Taking casinos for a ride”:

After reading this article, I’m convinced that retired politicians are running the casinos. Who in their right mind would let someone give people an IOU to gamble with, and then want the district attorney’s office to collect the debt if they don’t pay?

The only marker a casino should honor is a debit card. And what is this loss to the casino costing the little guy who pays his way?

The article refers to a 1983 law that defines casino markers as legally binding documents. I think that law should be amended to “pay as you go or you are on your own.”

The casinos need to get their heads out of the sand and stop giving priority to the rich. Give the little guys a break; loosen up the machines, put more cocktail waitresses on the floor, stop the junk-gift giveaway programs and increase the comps.

And if the casinos want to really do a good job, give the little guy a $100 marker on his casino card. If he hits a royal, he pays the marker back now, and if not, turns it over to the district attorney and will gladly pay it back at $1 a year like the big rollers.
