Some people bemoan the fact that the wealthy are not contributing their fair share to help overcome the country’s financial problems. But if anyone thinks the “elite” class will volunteer to help, they would be sadly mistaken. With the exception of a few — for example, Warren Buffett and Bill Gates — the wealthy couldn’t care less.
As a recent article in Atlantic magazine points out, many of the wealthy believe the poor are to blame for their status. And to those who extol the virtues of the free market, that worked well under President George W. Bush, didn’t it?
