LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Leaders must reconnect with the people

It seems our leaders in Washington have lost sight of who and what they work for. They live in “ivory towers” in Washington and/or their home states and don’t mingle with the very people they supposedly work for.

I have a suggestion. When the leaders are back in their home states, they should visit the voters. These leaders should then ask themselves: If I had to live like the people I represent — if I were jobless or had a low income, just eking out a living — how would it affect me? They should also ask themselves what it would be like to be on welfare, receive food stamps and, if they are lucky, receive rent assistance to have a roof over their heads so they are not living on the street. My heart goes out to those whose children, at times, go to sleep hungry.

It is time for the haves to get to know the have-nots.
