Celebrity singers hit sour notes on national anthem

I could not agree more with Dennis Stevers’ Thursday letter to the editor, headlined “Our national anthem is not a celebrity showcase.”

For too many years, I have had to listen to “entertainers” who want to make our national anthem their own. Instead of simply singing the anthem, we are more often than not subjected to someone butchering the song.

My husband and I attend Wranglers hockey games, and it’s a real pleasure to hear Paul Villaluz singing the anthem. His rendition is honest and clearly sung with the respect the song deserves, and he invariably gets applause both before and after he sings.

All would-be singers should take a lesson from him on how to sing our anthem.
