LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Health insurance law needs time to change, evolve

It is time to stop all this nonsense about health care. Everyone, or almost everyone, agreed that the health care system in this country was not working and needed to be changed so more people would be able to get quality health care. The problem was no one was willing to put a new idea in place.

Up stepped President Barack Obama with his program and he starts the ball rolling with new legislation. Like any new program it needs a chance to grow and change as needed.

Think about this: Every state requires you to purchase auto insurance. Not only do you have to purchase auto insurance, you also have to pay to register your automobile.

This allows drivers to travel anywhere in this country and be protected. There are many policies available with different protections, but there is a basic policy that everyone must have.

There are people who choose to not insure their automobile, but this is against the law. There are insurance programs that protect you against an uninsured driver.

Maybe we should look at a health care program in a similar way. Maybe those looking at the health care bill’s constitutionality should look at the auto insurance business on a constitutional basis. In both cases, we are or will be required to purchase protection. Our auto insurance business seems to work in most cases.
