LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Boehner’s hypocrisy still going strong

I pointed out in a letter to the editor in January the hypocrisy of Speaker John Boehner not mentioning job creation as he took over leadership of the House.

After all, Boehner and his fellow Republicans ran on the platform that President Barack Obama did not create enough jobs and that this would be their first order of business.

Now we are into the second month of the Boehner era and still no job-creation program has been introduced. The man who complained that Obama didn’t create enough jobs made repeal of Obama’s health care reform his No. 1 priority. My opinion of his hypocrisy was certainly justified.

But then, anybody who followed Boehner’s career should not be surprised. He was elected in 1990 and in 1995 passed out tobacco money on the floor of the House. He is surrounded by a who’s who in the lobbying world.

How is Boehner’s record with promises? He was one of the writers of Newt Gingrich’s 1994 Contract With America — I call it the Contract on America.

The contract pledged a vote to limit the terms of members of the House to six terms — no more than 12 years of service. Boehner’s 12 years would have been up years ago.
