LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Proposed budget pays no attention to hard choices

On Monday we finally received President Barack Obama’s proposed budget.

What did we receive for our patience? I believe the headline on a Washington Post editorial said it all: President Barack Obama has been christened the “Punter-in-Chief.”

The charade of trying to overcome the mistakes of the Bush administration is no longer valid. This budget contains continuous trillion-dollar deficits, massive expansion of government agencies and more and more control of our lives by a powerful, centralized federal bureaucracy.

This budget has nothing to do with getting the economy on its feet and everything to do with the government having its foot on our collective throats.

We have hope. The Republicans are finally acting responsibly and looking for ways to reduce spending and dispose of worthless programs and regulations. Entitlements need to be addressed. Hard choices need to be made.

The budget presented by our president paid no attention to those hard choices — it was designed to reduce the heat on the administration until the next election. We, as Americans, deserve better.
