LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Cut corporate subsidies, foreign aid

I don’t understand what members of Congress are thinking. They keep talking about cutting spending, but when an idea that doesn’t fit their thinking comes up, they send it down the road without a care.

Several things could be used to cut spending:

The oil companies are making profits like never before, but they are still getting subsidized by the government.

The same thing is going on with big corporate farms. They are making profits that are out of this world, and the government is still paying them extra. For what, I don’t know.

Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev., has suggested that we cut foreign aid, but that was shot down by the House. It seems as if Congress is worried more about people in other countries than about the people who put its members in office with the hope those people will do right by them.

We are fighting and paying for two wars — one of which was totally unnecessary. I can’t believe that when we finally say enough is enough that we will have made any difference in either of these countries. They will both go back to their way of living, which is certainly not looking up to the United States, yet we keep pouring billions into each of these countries — a lot of which is wasted on corrupt governments.

I know the above will not take care of our huge problems, but it sure would be a start, and you can’t walk a mile without taking the first step.
